At Lansdown Park we passionately believe that the development of each student’s Information Communication Technology (ICT) skills is essential which is why each student has two lessons per week in the Electronic Learning Base. Firstly, this is because in our world’s ever depending reliance on new technologies the ability to use ICT effectively will be extremely important in someone’s ability to secure purposeful employment. In addition, the huge amount of knowledge now gained via the Internet means that the ability to use ICT effectively is crucial.
To this end students work towards the European Computer Driving License (ECDL) qualification. This qualification develops students’ skills in terms of the universally used Microsoft packages; Word (word processing), Excel (spreadsheets) and Power Point (presentations). These software packages are used in the vast majority of businesses throughout the UK and wider world.
Students learn how to use the packages via real life business scenarios. This enables the students to acquire new skills and crucially to understand why they are important and when it is appropriate to use them.
Information Communication Technology
Every student at Lansdown Park has one lesson per week in the Electronic Learning Base to utilise the brand new computer suite and further enhance their ICT skills. During this lesson students will use the ICT equipment to support their work in other subject areas e.g. they could use Microsoft Excel to produce graphs in Maths and Science, they could do some research for their Themes lessons or they could produce a presentation about a novel they have been reading in English.
